The Worldwide Electric WPEVHS-series 60 HP vertical hollow shaft motor is a premium-efficiency, inverter-duty motor engineered specifically for driving vertical turbine pumps in deep-well water, irrigation, municipal water supply, mining dewatering, and industrial cooling-tower applications. Built with a weather-protected Type I (WPI) enclosure, rodent screen protection, and double thrust bearings on units 100 HP and up, this motor is the workhorse of Colorado's agricultural and municipal well industry.

What's included with this motor

Every WPEVHS motor ships complete with the components most pump installers order separately:

  • Standard coupling (MC360-1.25-.25) — a $139.63 value included with your motor at no extra cost — factory-matched to your motor's hollow shaft and ready to drop onto the pump drive shaft
  • 120V space heaters — keep windings dry during off-season shutdowns, critical for seasonal irrigation and standby pumps
  • 1.15 service factor — headroom for voltage variations and intermittent overloads that are common on utility-fed well sites
  • Class F insulation — handles continuous 24/7 duty with high ambient temperatures
  • White epoxy paint — cooler surface temperature, UV resistant for outdoor pump-house installations
  • Spike-resistant inverter-grade wiring (NEMA MG-1 Part 31) — ready for VFD operation out of the box

Base size: 16.5" casting (included with motor).

Ideal applications

  • Municipal water supply wells — Front Range water districts, small-town public water systems, industrial supply
  • Agricultural irrigation wells — center pivots, flood irrigation, drip system headers across Colorado's Eastern Plains and the San Luis Valley
  • Deep-well industrial process water — food processing, cooling tower makeup, boiler feed supply
  • Mine dewatering — gold, silver, molybdenum, and aggregate operations needing continuous pit-bottom pumping
  • Commercial HVAC cooling tower pumps — large-building condenser water systems
  • Fire pump driver motors — where UL/FM listing is not required (check with your AHJ first)

Replacement for these competitor motors

The WPEVHS series is a direct hydraulic and mechanical replacement for vertical hollow shaft motors from other major manufacturers. If you're replacing an existing motor, match the HP, RPM, frame, and base size — the coupling and pump shaft connection will be the same. Common equivalent models:

  • U.S. Motors (Nidec) — HOLLOSHAFT, HOLLOSHAFT High Thrust, HSP series
  • Baldor-Reliance — Vertical Hollow Shaft (VHS) series, RPM AC vertical motors
  • WEG — W22 Vertical Hollow Shaft
  • TECO-Westinghouse — MAX-E3 vertical hollow shaft
  • GE / ABB — vertical pump motors, legacy designs

If you know the existing motor's manufacturer model number, we can cross-reference it to the correct WPEVHS equivalent — just call (303) 939-8643 or email us with your nameplate photo.

Colorado altitude sizing — critical for well motors

Vertical turbine pump motors run continuously 24/7 during irrigation season or in municipal service, making altitude derating more important than for intermittent-duty motors. At Colorado elevations:

  • Eastern Plains (3,500–5,000 ft): Standard motor ratings apply for most applications with minor derating on peak summer days
  • Denver Metro / Front Range (~5,280 ft): Plan on roughly 3-4% continuous capacity derating — size one HP step up from calculated pump load for continuous-duty applications
  • Mountain West installations (above 7,000 ft): 8-10% derating is typical; size two steps up and verify enclosure ventilation
  • San Luis Valley agricultural wells (7,500+ ft): Always size conservatively — we've rebuilt too many undersized motors from this region

Worldwide's 1.15 service factor gives you some built-in margin, but don't rely on service factor as your primary altitude buffer. Call us with your elevation and pump specs — we'll size it right the first time.

Optional upgrades available

  • Alternate coupling sizes — if your pump drive shaft doesn't match the standard MC360-1.25-.25, we stock multiple bore sizes from 3/4" through 2-1/2"
  • Alternate base sizes — 10", 12", 16.5", 20", and 24.5" base castings available
  • Winding RTDs — factory-installed temperature monitors (standard on 125-500 HP, optional below)
  • Bearing RTDs — thrust and guide bearing temperature monitoring
  • Space heaters — 120V installed standard; 240V available on request

Why contractors choose Colorado Electric Motors Depot

  • Free motor sizing for Colorado altitudes — we size 50+ well motors per year across the Front Range, Eastern Plains, San Luis Valley, and Western Slope
  • Same-day shipping on stocked units from nationwide distribution centers
  • Coupling cross-reference help — send us your existing coupling part number and we'll match it
  • VFD pairing — need to pair this motor with a drive? We stock Worldwide WDN750E VFDs (inverter-duty rated) that work perfectly with WPEVHS motors
  • Colorado local knowledge — we know the pump installers, well drillers, and inspectors across the region

Shipping note: Motors 150 HP and larger are palletized and ship via freight carrier with lift-gate service. Allow 3-5 business days for LTL freight delivery to most Colorado locations.
